The Mat as a Laboratory

At Piscassic Jiu Jitsu, we believe martial arts should be a space for discovery, growth, and problem-solving. In partnership with the Newmarket Rec Department, our mission is to provide accessible, low-cost, high-quality BJJ instruction to Newmarket and the surrounding Seacoast community.

Our approach isn't built on rigid dogma or drill-and-forget routines. Instead, we favor treating the mats as if they were a lab—running continuous experiments to find out what truly works for your body and what doesn't under realistic pressure.

Antifragile Grappling

We build our curriculum around the concept of antifragility.

In live grappling, chaos and unpredictable resistance are guaranteed. Rather than trying to avoid disorder, we train our students to leverage it. By building a thorough grounding in fundamental mechanics, you learn to use the stress and dynamic nature of live sparring not just to survive, but to adapt, evolve, and become stronger.

“Antifragility is beyond resilience or robustness. The resilient resists shocks and stays the same; the antifragile gets better.”

— Nassim Nicholas Taleb, Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder
